Met Gala 2025: Bollywood Icons Shah Rukh Khan & Diljit Dosanjh Redefine Global Fashion with Indian Elegance

The Met Gala 2025, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, embraced the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, celebrating the sophistication, resistance, and refinement rooted in Black dandyism. Among the evening’s most celebrated appearances were Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan and Punjabi global star Diljit Dosanjh, who brought their distinct interpretations to the red carpet—bridging Indian heritage with contemporary menswear couture.

As India’s fashion and cultural ambassadors, their presence wasn’t just about style—it was about identity, craftsmanship, and global storytelling through fabric and form.

Shah Rukh Khan: The Epitome of Regal Sophistication

Making his much-anticipated Met Gala debut, Shah Rukh Khan arrived in a bespoke creation by iconic Indian couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee. His look was a refined tribute to both Indian and Black dandyism—timeless tailoring traditions steeped in elegance, performance, and personality.

Khan’s ensemble featured a tailored, floor-length coat crafted from fine Tasmanian wool, finished with Japanese horn buttons. He paired it with a black silk shirt, classic trousers, and a structured satin kamarbandh. His accessories were equally striking—layered talismanic chains, a crystal-studded ‘K’ pendant, a diamond star brooch, and a handcrafted 18k gold cane encrusted with precious stones.

The ensemble balanced restraint and grandeur in perfect harmony—a look that not only honoured tradition but reinforced Khan’s global identity as a cinematic and cultural icon.

Diljit Dosanjh: A Majestic Tribute to Punjabi Heritage

Diljit Dosanjh made a landmark debut at the Met Gala 2025 in a custom look by designer Prabal Gurung, seamlessly blending Sikh regality with global couture. Wearing an ivory sherwani-inspired suit with a matching cape embroidered in delicate florals, he completed the look with a turban, ceremonial sword, and statement jewellery that included Cartier’s emeralds, rubies, pearls, and gemstone-encrusted accessories.

Gold embroidery on the waistband added structure, while the silhouette itself spoke of timeless grace reimagined for a contemporary stage.

As Diljit Rightly put it,

“Inspired by the theme of Black Dandyism, I bring my turban, my culture & my mother tongue ‘ਪੰਜਾਬੀ’ to the Met Gala.”

In doing so, Dosanjh not only wore fashion—he represented a people, a language, and a legacy, proudly placing Punjabi identity on one of the world’s most watched stages.

A Fusion of Heritage and High Fashion

Both Khan and Dosanjh exemplified how fashion can serve as a vessel for culture. Their appearances celebrated Indian textiles, fine tailoring, and the art of wearing one’s identity.

Khan’s look nodded to old-world sophistication elevated by modern detailing, while Dosanjh’s ensemble was a radiant expression of Sikh tradition, royal codes, and design innovation. Together, they reminded the world that Indian menswear—steeped in symbolism and strength—has a definitive place on global red carpets.

The Met Gala 2025 wasn’t just a celebration of tailoring—it was a celebration of identity. Through their distinctive ensembles, Shah Rukh Khan and Diljit Dosanjh showed how fashion becomes truly powerful when it tells a story rooted in heritage and elevated by intention.

Their appearances will undoubtedly inspire designers, artisans, and fashion lovers worldwide—reinforcing that in couture, culture is never out of style.
